This is actually a preview rather than a review. Have you heard about the new miniseries on HBO about Thoroughbred horse racing? It is getting good reviews. Critic David Bianculli has these two comments that caught my attention. He says that Luck “…covers the entire spread of perspectives, from the corporate owners in the luxury boxes to the horse trainers in the stalls, from the jockeys on the saddles to the gamblers in the stands.”
With regard to the equine contingent he reports “That’s one thing I really enjoy watching in Luck, by the way. There are scenes where various characters have to interact with the horses — petting them, talking to them, bathing and training them — and those scenes are like improv. The horses act, and their human co-stars react — or the other way around. But the horses, in close-up, make it all seem more real somehow.”
Here is the whole review-http://tvworthwatching.com/blog/
All I know is that seeing Dustin Hoffman and horses both sounds really good to me! The trainer is played by Nick Nolte and there are many other well known actors.
One critic described Luck as “The Downton Abbey of Thoroughbred racing.” There is only one problem. It is going to air at the same time as Masterpiece Classic,. Sunday night at 9:00 pm. Thank heavens for DVR technology!
