A Horse Lover’s Thoughts on Chicken Keeping: Stalls or Shelters

Today I found a great blog post on chicken keeping. It is titled “Raising Chickens 2.0: No More Coop and Run.”

From a horse lover’s perspective I would say that this is akin to the “Stall or Shelter” discussion we have all heard in the equine world. I found it particularly helpful because the blogger concludes that the best approach with chickens is what he calls “chicken paddocks”.  This is a concept I understand!

I felt right at home and was reminded of the first two years at Pathfinder Farm when I was figuring out the best arrangement for pastures and investing in the fencing. Setting up chicken paddocks seems much more manageable. I am not sure what hardware cloth, which used to make chicken fencing is; but doubt it will take the same bite out of the budget as no climb horse fence!

Has anyone got advice about runs, free ranging or paddocks?
